Eligibility

Valid Travel Document: Non-EU citizens entering Greek territory must possess a valid travel document recognized by the competent Greek authorities. This document should meet the following criteria:

• Its validity extends at least three months beyond the intended departure date from the territory of the EU member states. In case of multiple visits, it should be valid three months beyond the last intended departure date. However, in justified emergency situations, this obligation may be waived.
• It contains at least two blank pages.
• It was issued within the previous decade.

Visa Requirement: These documents must bear an entry visa (VISA) if required by existing international conventions, EU law, and national regulations.

Visa Issuance: The entry visa is granted by the consular authority within the jurisdiction of which the third-country citizen legally resides, taking into account reasons related to public order and safety of the country and public health. The visa is distinguished into Uniform Visa (Visa C), Limited Territorial Validity Visa (Visa LTV), and long-duration visa (national visa – Visa D).

Duration of Stay: A third-country citizen who does not have an entry visa obligation is allowed to enter and stay in Greek territory for a period not exceeding 90 days within any period of 180 days from the date of first entry. A third-country citizen entering the country for tourism, conferences, cultural and sports events, and generally for short-term stay, can temporarily stay without a residence permit, for as long as the consular visa is valid or for a period of up to 90 days within any period of 180 days if it is a third-country citizen who is allowed entry without a consular visa.

Extension of Visa: The validity period of a granted visa and/or the permitted duration of stay is extended according to Article 33 of Regulation 810/2009, provided that the visa holder has sufficient means of subsistence and provides evidence of the existence of force majeure or humanitarian reasons that prevented him from leaving the territory of the EU member states before the expiry of the visa validity period or the permitted duration of stay. This extension is carried out by the competent authorities of the Ministry of Public Order and Citizen Protection. The extension of visas takes the form of a sticker visa.

Required Currency: The amount of required currency for each day of the third-country citizen’s stay in Greece is determined by a decision of the Ministers of Finance, Foreign Affairs, and Public Order and Citizen Protection. A similar decision can adjust it.

Emergency Cases: In exceptional cases, an entry visa is allowed to be granted by the passport control services upon the arrival of the third-country citizen at the entry point, according to the provisions of the Visa Code.

National Entry Visa: The national entry visa is issued based on the corresponding regulations for the residence permit of this law, and its duration is associated, as the case may be, with that of the intended stay.

Required Documents
